Away, away

I am here but away from home.  This place isn't home by a long shot but it's becoming so familiar to me the longer I stay.  I found Oi today, just down the street in an unlikely location.  I found the scent of orange blossoms walking up Edgemont toward Franklin.  I found Ephrain at Von's who helped me and made my day.  Daily, I'm finding shifts of viewpoints of the life I've led.

Reminding myself that these paddle boats are at Waneka Lake.  We stopped in at the Lafayette Peach festival and found 3 perfect peaches that served to satisfy us for the season.  Any others would probably disappoint.  There is a doe in the back yard behind the red bench next to Roxie's grave.  Sugar didn't know she had been watching him work on the gate for the last hour.

Viehle Lake last night - we were divebombed by a little group of hummingbirds.  Friday, we saw the Blue Moon rise from Dakota Ridge and it really was a little blue with the haze then it turned peachy.
We live in a beautiful place.

Great summer so far - temps haven't brutalized us yet and there's enough rain to notice. We've moved into a sort of semi-retirement stage of life and I'm loving it. We put in another plum tree plus some rabbit bushes along with the veg garden. Lots of time spent with Honey discovering present time in a new way, all seasons of "Justified" knocked out and now working on "Breaking Bad". Swimming in our semi-private condo pool, painting some and new curtains for the east bedroom. Yes, working, too, but mainly just enjoying life.

Mara des Bois strawberries in the garden - the first of this crop. Dealing with the grass growing so fast with all the rain. Pollen tickling my nose. I love summer in Boulder!

Delighted

I'm delighted to have found that the password still works and Google generously save my blog for me for these years. Summer has arrived in town after a wet Spring. The water from last year's flood is still seeping into the cracks and crevices; the air is abnormally humid; the perennially dry ditch overflows furiously with a good rain. Today I'm finishing Under Magnolia and trying my hand at homemade boiled peanuts. All the signs point toward a very good summer ahead.

My Sunday morning ritual: The Gospel Train on KUVO. WWOZ Sunday AM gospel is also good but I forget about it.

I've been visiting OP gardens created by some Boulder Culinary Gardeners members. The one yesterday had a big chicken coop.

The chickens came over to greet me like puppies would.

I haven't yet visited a garden where deer are regular visitors - apparently they don't visit east Boulder very much. I have been inspired to make some adjustments to our yard, though. Yesterday we moved the compost heap so it wouldn't be so visible from the street. Lo and behold we ran into a couple of inch long baby mice. I hope the mama is still around somewhere.

My old favorite bird bath cracked and was repaired this year. There's a doe in the background, the one who had the fawn. She's a frequent visitor this year.
Got this new one on sale at Gwynne's in Lyons.

This one I threw together before I repaired the cracks and got new ones. It's the one that gets the most use.

Finally - Heavenly Rain. We left the umbrellas behind and got wet.

Over a hundred degrees and 4º humidity. Anytime you look north you can see the fire pumping new smoke out of the hills. Good for drying clothes quickly.
